Labiaplasty usually takes around 1.5 hours. At Real Plastic Surgery we use a general anaesthetic and you should be able to go home the same day.

You may need to take 1 - 2 weeks off work with most people having significantly recovered within 6 weeks.

In most cases 1 procedure can produce long-term results.

To improve the appearance of the vagina, as well as to reduce any discomfort.

You may need to avoid strenuous exercise and the gym for approx. 6 - 8 weeks.

If you have any doubts. Our team of experts will provide support and guidance all the way through your treatment journey; using the consultation to determine your suitability and your certainty.

What to expect on the day

During the consultation we will decide together whether the procedure is to address the labia majora, the labia minora or a combination of both – however, treating the inner lips is more common. The surgery will involve making an appropriate cut in the labia: along the labia, by making a v-shape or by trimming skin and tissue from the surface of the labia. This will enable the right amount of skin and tissue to be removed in order to reduce the amount of protrusion.

The labiaplasty can be used as part of a mummy makeover procedure, to help improve the appearance of the body following pregnancy and childbirth, or alongside vaginoplasty when addressing the overall functioning of the vagina.

Showering after labiaplasty

The team at REAL plastic surgery will give you appropriate advice before you go home from the clinic, but in many cases, a person can usually shower 24 hours after surgery.

Follow up and aftercare

It is important to remain mobile while you are healing from labiaplasty. We will also give you suitable pain relief advice and instruct you on the best way to care for your wounds. Follow up appointments will be made 1 week, 3 weeks and 3 months after surgery so we can closely monitor your healing and recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Am I suitable for this procedure?

Labiaplasty is often requested to reduce enlarged labia. Surgery can often help to eliminate any aesthetic concerns, as well as to make the vagina feel more comfortable when walking or cycling, or for the labia to become less noticeable through tight clothing.

  • Are the results permanent?

Labiaplasty can produce long-term results. In some cases this can be permanent, but we can not guarantee that excess skin and tissues will not develop in the future.

  • What are the side effects?

Immediately following surgery, the vagina will feel sore and the labia will be swollen. This will subside within 1 or 2 weeks when it is more comfortable to move around. Although you will need to take it easy for a couple of weeks, it is important to remain mobile to avoid blood clots from forming.
