Mastopexy Uplift

Mastopexy / Breast Uplift (with or without Implants/Fat Transfer)
Breast Prodecure

Mastopexy is a surgical breast procedure that helps to lift the breasts and raise their positioning on the chest. This procedure can help to improve the confidence of women who have droopy, sagging breasts or deflated breasts, whether due to ageing, pregnancy or volume loss.

It is often combined with implants or fat transfer, as an uplift alone can sometimes result in the breasts appearing smaller.

If there is a lot of heavy breast tissue that has sagged down, it might be better to perform a ‘reduction-augmentation’ ie a breast reduction to remove the drooping tissue and implants to replace fullness higher up on the chest.

Mastopexy / uplift can take around 1 - 3 hours. We use a general anaesthetic and you can usually go home on the same day.

You may need to take around 2 weeks off work.

In many cases only 1 procedure is required for long-term results. However, if natural ageing continues to cause the skin to stretch, a review may be needed in time.

To lift droopy or sagging breasts and raise their positioning on the chest.

Sports and exercise may need to be avoided for approx. 6 - 8 weeks.

If you have any doubts. Our team of experts will provide support and guidance all the way through your treatment journey; using the consultation to determine your suitability and your certainty.

What to expect on the day

The mastopexy procedure often involves removing excess skin on the breasts. Incisions will be made according to how much skin needs to be removed and may be placed around the areola or around the areola and then vertically towards the breast crease.

This allows our surgeons to lift the breast to a more natural looking position, without changing the actual breast size. Depending on your individual situation, the breasts can also be reshaped and the nipple can be repositioned. Women with smaller breasts often achieve more effective results that last longer as larger, heavier breasts can continue to pull downwards.

Other breast procedures can be combined with the mastopexy if the size and shape of the breasts are also of concern. For instance, larger breasts can also be reduced to help reduce their overall weight and prevent them becoming saggy in the future. On the other hand, smaller breasts can also be augmented (either with implants or through fat grafting) to also give a fuller appearance.

Showering after mastopexy / uplift

Making incisions in breasts will require dressing s to be applied. The breasts and the dressings will need to be kept dry while the wounds heal, so showering is not recommended for 1 week. After this time a warm bath or shaower is preferred, but not the use of a power shower.

Follow up and aftercare

REAL plastic surgery follows up breast surgery with a series of appointments, made 1 week, 6 weeks and 3 months after the procedure. At the first appointment we often assess the wounds and remove the dressings if the wounds are sufficiently healed. We may ask you to continue to wear a supportive sports bra for up to 3 months to support the breasts while they are healing.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Are there any side effects?

Immediately after the surgery, the breasts will be swollen and bruised. This may last for 1 or 2 weeks, and you may need to take this time off work. Pain relief can help with any post surgery discomfort We advise that sports and heavy lifting is not resumed for around 6 or 8 weeks.

  • Will there be any scarring?

There will be some scarring where incisions have been made. We place incisions in discreet places so as to minimise noticeable scars. In their nature, scarring will fade over time, and many patients find that after several months, it is barely noticeable.

  • When can I expect to see results?

There will be an instant lifting of the breasts following surgery. However, as swelling and bruising will need time to ease, and the breasts will need time to settle into place, the final result may not be fully developed until 3 months after the procedure.
