Revision Breast Surgery

Revision Breast Surgery
Breast Prodecure

Revision breast surgery can be undertaken for a variety of reasons. In some cases a woman has taken steps to create a more desirable appearance of the breasts, and the surgery has not gone to plan. In others, a repeat procedure to replace implants or correct capsular contracture, has changed the look of the breasts.

Mastopexy / uplift can take around 1 - 3 hours. We use a general anaesthetic and you can usually go home on the same day.

You may need to take around 2 weeks off work.

In many cases only 1 procedure is required for long-term results.

To lift droopy or sagging breasts and raise their positioning on the chest.

Sports and exercise may need to be avoided for approx. 6 - 8 weeks.

If you have any doubts. Our team of experts will provide support and guidance all the way through your treatment journey; using the consultation to determine your suitability and your certainty.

What to expect on the day

Revision breast surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and is often treated as a day case. Your surgeon will most likely make incisions in the same place as the original surgery to enable access.

This will allow for implants to be removed (if this is the intention), and for any hardened scar tissue that is encasing the implant to be removed (capsule), if this is also the purpose of the surgery – known as a capsulectomy.

The natural appearance of the breasts can then be restored; whether excess skin needs to be removed or new implants need to be inserted. The exact approach that REAL plastic surgery uses to perform revision breast surgery will depend on the reasons why the procedure is needed. The details of the surgery will be discussed in a private consultation.

Showering after breast revision surgery

The breasts will have dressing applied after the wounds have been closed. Until your first follow-up appointment (1 week) you should keep the breasts and the dressings dry, and your surgeon will advise when you can resume showering.

Follow up and aftercare

Before you leave the clinic you will be given appropriate aftercare advice. This may include: avoiding heavy lifting, avoiding strenuous exercise, taking time off work, suitable pain relief and only resuming driving when it is comfortable to wear a seat belt.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Are there any side effects?

The breasts will be swollen and bruised following the surgery, much the same as when you had surgery the first time. This will take around 1 – 2 weeks to settle, which is when you can expect to start feeling more comfortable.

  • Will there be any scarring?

An incision in the skin will incur a degree of scarring. Our approach is with the aim of causing minimal scarring, which is why we try and place the incisions where they were made previously. This means that we keep discrete scarring, which will fade over time.

  • Will I receive follow up appointments?

We closely monitor your healing and recovery through a series of follow up appointments. These will be made at 1 week, 6 weeks and 3 months after the surgery. If you need to speak with any of our team, at any time, our clinic is fully contactable.
