Real Plastic Surgery - Piezo rhinoplasty

What to expect on the day

Piezo rhinoplasty can be treated as a day case and is usually performed under TIVA general anaesthetic.

This procedure can be undertaken for a closed rhinoplasty (incisions are made internally) or open rhinoplasty (incisions are made externally) and replaces utensils such as chisels and rasps to remove fragments of bone.Instead, a special device is used that delivers high-frequency ultrasonic waves directly to the nasal bone.

This technology enables the procedure to be performed more accurately and precisely as the surgeon has direct vision. It also has the benefit of causing less trauma to the surrounding muscles, skin and tissues which means there is less risk of post-surgical bleeding, swelling and visible scarring.

Showering after piezo rhinoplasty.

You may be able to shower the next day, but you will be advised to keep the face dry for up to 1 week after the procedure.

Follow-up and aftercare.

At REAL plastic surgery we ensure that your aftercare is approached with the same high standards that are used during the actual procedure. We monitor your recovery very closely and will arrange to see you 1 week after the surgery.

Your next appointment is usually 6 weeks after surgery unless you feel the need to contact us before. If you have any concerns or questions you will be able to access your surgeon, or one of our nurses / coordinators. Before you leave the clinic we will give you an emergency number.

Frequently Asked Questions

The rhinoplasty procedure can often produce the most noticeable changes to the face, providing the facial profile with a more harmonious look. Piezo rhinoplasty can be used to alter the overall shape and size of the nose, including the length and width. The way your surgeon approaches this procedure will depend on your specific concerns and your end goal whilst also considering the individual anatomy of your nose.

The structure of your nose is quite delicate, so you can expect a degree of swelling and bruising to appear around the eyes and cheeks. Stitches will be removed around 1 week after surgery, and we usually apply a cast after the procedure which is taken off around day 10. You may be able to return to work after 10 – 14 days, with a full recovery expected at around week 3 – when you may be able to return to a higher level of activity.

Most people who are unhappy with the size and / or shape of their nose, are found to be suitable for piezo rhinoplasty. Undergoing a surgical procedure often produces a permanent solution so it is imperative that this is your decision. REAL plastic surgery will only perform this procedure if we feel you are 100% sure that this is the procedure for you, and we ensure that every step is taken to fully prepare you for the upcoming surgery.
